Cleanings, exams, fillings, sealants, and pediatric care — the kind of preventive dentistry that keeps small problems from becoming big ones.

Cleanings & exams (Prophylaxis)
The foundation of every healthy mouth: gentle scaling, polishing, fluoride as appropriate, and a thorough exam. We'll show you what we see, not just tell you. Our hygienists take the time to walk you through your X-rays and point out anything worth watching. We believe an informed patient makes better decisions — and we'd rather catch something early than deal with a bigger problem later. Most adults benefit from a cleaning every six months, though some patients need to come in more often. Learn more about prophylaxis and what a typical visit looks like.
Pediatric dentistry
Our hygienists and dentists are patient with even the youngest visitors. We make the first few visits fun, teach kids how to brush and floss properly, and build a lifelong comfort with the dentist. Dental sealants are available for permanent molars as soon as they come in — a quick, gentle way to protect the grooves where cavities most often start. For families across Cave Spring and the Roanoke Valley, we recommend bringing children in for their first visit by age one or within six months of their first tooth. Visit our pediatric dentistry page for more on how we care for kids.
Periodontal maintenance
For patients with a history of gum disease, we offer periodontal maintenance on a 3- or 4-month cycle to keep things stable and prevent bone loss. Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults, but it doesn't have to progress. With regular deep cleanings and careful monitoring, we can help you keep your natural teeth for life. Dr. Perry and our hygiene team track pocket depths, gum recession, and bone levels at every visit so nothing slips through the cracks.
Fillings & sealants
Tooth-colored composite fillings for cavities and preventive sealants for kids. Same-day when possible. We use composite resin that matches your natural tooth color — no silver fillings here. Sealants are one of the most effective and accessible ways to prevent cavities in children, and they take just a few minutes per tooth. For more details, visit our preventative care page.
Oral cancer screening
Included in every exam. Early detection saves lives, and it takes less than a minute. Dr. Perry checks the soft tissues of your mouth, tongue, throat, and neck for any signs of abnormality. Oral cancer is highly treatable when caught early, which is one more reason routine visits matter.
Why routine care saves money
A cleaning and exam costs a fraction of what a crown, root canal, or extraction does. Patients who keep up with their twice-yearly visits almost always spend less on dental care over their lifetime than those who wait until something hurts. Prevention is the most accessible dentistry there is — and it's the kind we like doing most.
What sets our approach apart in Cave Spring
At Roanoke Dental Center, we treat families — not just teeth. Many of our patients have been coming here for years, and we know their stories. Dr. Perry trained at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry and brings that level of clinical skill to a Roanoke County practice that still feels like a small-town office. We take the time to listen, we explain before we treat, and we never recommend something you don't need. That's the kind of dentistry this community deserves.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I visit the dentist for a checkup?+
Most adults and children benefit from a cleaning and exam every six months. Patients with gum disease or higher cavity risk may need visits every three to four months. Dr. Perry will recommend the schedule that's right for you.
Do you see patients of all ages?+
Yes. We treat toddlers through seniors at our Cave Spring offices. We recommend bringing children in for their first visit by age one or within six months of their first tooth.
What if I haven't been to the dentist in years?+
No judgment here. We'll start where you are, take things at your pace, and build a plan that works. If there's significant buildup we may spread the cleaning over two visits to keep it comfortable. Sedation is also available.
Are dental X-rays safe?+
Yes. Modern digital X-rays use a fraction of the radiation compared to older film-based systems. We only take X-rays when clinically needed — never on a fixed schedule just because.
Do you accept dental insurance?+
We accept most major dental insurance plans. For patients without insurance, our Virginia Dental Club membership offers cleanings, exams, X-rays, and discounts on treatment at one flat annual rate.
What is the difference between a regular cleaning and a deep cleaning?+
A regular cleaning (prophylaxis) removes plaque and tartar above the gum line. A deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) goes below the gum line to treat gum disease. Dr. Perry will let you know which one you need based on your exam.
